1. Basic Introduction to the 482 visa

The Australian 482 visa, fully known as the Australian Skills In Demand SID-visa, was formerly known as the 457 Employer-Sponsored Visa. On March 18, 2018, the 457 visa was abolished and replaced by the 482 visa, which is currently abbreviated as SID.

The subcategories of the 482 visa include the Specialist category for High wages, the Core Skills category for ordinary skills, and the LA category for labor agreements. That is, the visa allows an Australian employer to sponsor a skilled overseas worker to address the shortage in the Australian labor market.

 

2. Advantages of the 482 visa

There are many positions to choose from.

The processing period is fast.

There is no age limit for 482 applications (for conversion to 186, the age cannot exceed 45 years old, unless there is an age exemption).

The minimum IELTS score requirement is only 5 in each of the four sections.

The applicant is required to have two years of relevant working experience.

Spouses and children can work and study in Australia.

Starting from the December 2024 period, the Employer-sponsored 482-SID visa immigration will be easier, with unlimited renewability, changing from three years to two years

3. Requirements

(1) Basic requirements

There is no age limit, but English proficiency is required (except for expatriate positions).

This visa allows the applicant to work in Australia for up to two or four years.

Certain occupational positions have completed relevant occupational assessments;

The annual salary for general technical positions in the fiscal year 2025 is AUD 73,150

The annual salary for general technical positions in the fiscal year 2026 is AUD 76,515

The annual salary for senior experts in the fiscal year 2025 is AUD 135,000

The annual salary for senior experts in the fiscal year 2026 is AUD 141,210

The annual salary for overseas positions offered by overseas enterprises is AUD 96,400,482

(3) Employer's requirements

Legally operating enterprises with no false or bad records; The nominated occupation is genuine and valid.

 

4. Application Steps

Step 1: The employer (Australian company) applies for Standard Business Sponsorship.

Step 2: After the application for employer sponsorship is approved, the employer submits the job nomination application (the position is genuine, vacant, or newly established).

Step 3: Employees applying for this visa must submit a visa application and meet the visa requirements

 

5. Processing Time (Updated by the immigration office from time to time)

Sponsorship qualification for 482 visa: 90% of the processing time is 60 days

Nomination for 482 visa: 90% of the processing time is 3 to 6 months

482 Visa - 90% of the processing time is 3 to 6 months
